I picked this up for a solo winter trek and the eerie stillness of the snowstorm chapter matched exactly what I felt alone on the ridge last January. The pacing never drags, and the ending genuinely made me put the book down for a minute.

The snowstorm scene hits so hard it gave me chills—the way the stillness creeps in before the chaos feels almost too real. I played it late at night with the lights off and actually caught myself holding my breath. If you want an escape that yanks you out of your own head, this one delivers.

The isolation and tension build perfectly as the storm closes in, and the pacing had me checking over my own shoulder. The eerie stillness during the night sections is genuinely unsettling, exactly the kind of escape I was craving.
